Climate Justice
Climate change. As our planet rockets into a new geological epoch, we find ourselves on unfamiliar terrain. The only thing that is certain is that no one knows what will happen, and no one is in control. The rest of our lives will be defined by an exponential ecological entropy that will increasingly destabilize both the economic and political foundations upon which the modern world has been built. Climate change is already displacing millions of people around the world while others are impacted by psychological wellbeing. Almost two-thirds of 10,000 16-25 year-olds in 10 countries were "very or extremely worried" about climate change and inadequate governmental responses in a study published in The Lancet in September, 2021.
Governments and corporation have proved themselves incapable of taking the necessary steps to ensure the survival of life on earth as we know it. Personal choices to reduce CO2 footprint are not enough and individuals feel the need to act now. They are both coming together and being pulled apart by social media and technology.
Collective responses are not just necessary, they're urgent. A new global movement is growing and people around the world are organizing themselves to fight for a better future. Groups like Fridays For Future and Extinction Rebellion have ammassed millions of people in the streets in the last few years. Autonomous groups have occupied forests and villages around Germany. Civil disobedience has become visible in media and cities around the world.
My long-term project ‘Climate Justice’ is a tribute to those individual and grassroots groups that are fighting for climate justice.
